Crews work to free large German shepherd stuck in a deep well in Bonita [Breaking]
Crews from three fire agencies — including Chula Vista Fire Department’s Urban Search & Rescue team — worked together Wednesday to rescue a large German shepherd trapped at the bottom of a deep, unused well in Bonita.
The call for help came in about 2:30 p.m. on Vista Drive, Chula Vista fire Captain Josh Sanders said. Crews from Bonita and San Miguel departments responded. It took a few hours, but they were able to get the dog topside. Sanders said the composition of the soil, which was wet from recent rains, and the configuration of the structure led rescuers to decide they would not send anyone down to grab the 100-pound dog, because they did not want to “put human lives in danger.”San Diego Humane Society tweeted that its Emergency Response Team was on scene to assist in the rescue from the well. The structure is about 3-feet wide and unsupported, authorities said.
