The teen was reported missing while swimming Sunday night in Pitman.

Crews are searching a South Jersey lake for a high school senior who disappeared while swimming with a friend Sunday night.

“The kids were swimming and the friend reached out to try to get him, but was unable to,” said Ryan Pierson, Pitman’s deputy emergency management coordinator. “Some bystanders that were in the area heard the commotion. Two bystanders actually went into the water to try to make a rescue attempt.”They worked through the night and remain at the scene. The family is at the lake waiting for news, officials said.
