A large plume of smoke could be seen over in west Harris County before the fire was contained. No damages or injuries were reported.

A grass fire in west Harris County that sparked close to homes in the Morton Ranch area Thursday afternoon has been contained.The Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department said that at about 2 p.m., a passerby called to report the flames in a heavy brush area behind a neighborhood.

Officials responded to the scene and said there was a threat to the houses on the west side of the fire. The fire was contained before it could reach the homes.No damage or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
