According to the county’s application for state funds, the West 130th Street bridge was built in 1952. An average of 11,140 vehicles, including about 334 trucks, travel the bridge daily. The bridge’s expansion joints, which allow the bridge to expand and contract without cracking, and scuppers, which are holes in the deck that allow the bridge to drain stormwater, also no longer meet county standards and are likely contributing to the bridge’s deterioration.
