Cy-Fair ISD student bakers competed in a Cupcake Battle on Jan. 20 at the Berry Center.

“This is one of my favorite days of the year,” Tami Hunt, Cypress Woods High School culinary arts teacher, said in a video on CFISD social media pages. “It gives the students a local opportunity to be able to go and create amazing things, be judged and be able to talk to other people about their craft.”

“So many of our students go from our culinary arts program to be very successful restaurateurs and chefs in the food service industry,” Superintendent Mark Henry said. “So, it’s just a great opportunity to show their creativeness and their baking talent.” Cypress Ridge High School junior Manmut Libam-Libock was among the many winners at the sixth annual CFISD High School Cupcake Battle, held Jan. 20 at the Berry Center. Libam-Libock won first place in the Advanced Culinary division, while cupcakes were also judged on best frosting, most unique flavor, most advanced technique and best presentation.“I’m really happy now because I was pretty stressed about my cupcake,” Libam-Libock said. “I took a really big chance and it worked out.

“During the meringue race, not only do they work together as a team but they’re also answering questions from ServSafe, they’re whisking, they’re having to take turns, trade off who is mixing, they’re running back and forth,” she said. “They have to see who is going to run down there and dump the meringue on their head and hope that it sticks .”
