Ex-Shamokin Councilman Joseph Leschinskie is accused of lying when he signed an affidavit stating he was eligible to hold office.

The Shamokin city councilman removed from office last year because of his criminal record has been told he will be charged if he does not withdraw his nominating petitions for his old seat.

The filing petitions on time remark was in reference to the county voter office Tuesday refusing to accept Matulewicz’s petitions for reelection because his notarized affidavit was filed late.order issued in March 2022 by county Judge Charles H. Saylor,He removed Leschinskie from office finding his two 2009 felony drug convictions were “infamous crimes” as defined by state constitution. The constitution states those convicted of such crimes my not hold office.

Helfrich’s ability to run for City Council because of his record was challenged in 2011 but a York County judge a year later ruled in his favor.and several traffic violations as the result of a rear-end type accident Jan. 27 on Route 61 in Paxinos.
