The Dallas City Council is going forward with its plans to replace the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center with a new 2.5 million square foot building and several new amenities.
The plan would not only include a new convention center, but a convention district. City projections show compared to the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center, the project could nearly double annual attendance, yield 50 to 100,000 jobs, and create $30 to $50 billion in total spending over 30 years. A 2% increase on city hotel tax would have to be approved by voters to fund the project.
