Dallas driver faces manslaughter charge after hitting, killing 8-year-old riding scooter

The crash happened about 7 p.m. in the 3600 block of Dilido Road in Far East Dallas. Police said Miguel Martinez, 30, hit the child with his vehicle while driving. The child, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Martinez remained at the crash scene but showed signs of intoxication, according to police. He was also allegedly driving with a child at the time of the crash. Martinez faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and driving while intoxicated with two or more previous convictions. Bond has not been set, and it’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney who could comment on his behalf.Due to incorrect information originally provided by the Dallas Police Department, a previous version of this story incorrectly listed the charges Miguel Martinez faces in connection with a fatal crash involving a child.
