After releasing his platinum-selling debut album in 1989, the D.O.C. saw his career derailed by a car accident. A new documentary aims to tell more of his story.“D.O.C., no one can do it better,” Dr. Dre rapped on the hit single “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.” If you don’t know D.O.C.’s name, it’s because his career was cut short by a car accident five months after the release of his platinum-selling debut album in 1989.
The accident crushed his larynx and nearly killed the Dallas native, born Tracy Lynn Curry, who started out in the city as a member of the Fila Fresh Crew and went on to score writing credits on some of the most iconic hip-hop albums of all time, including releases by Dre, N.W.A. and Eazy-E., directed by Dave Caplan, will debut June 10 at the Beacon Theatre in New York as part of the Tribeca Festival .
