Dallas’ once-in-a-decade review of the City Charter begins Wednesday at City Hall with the first meeting of the 15-member charter review commission.

What that would mean for Johnson, who has 45 months left in his tenure, isn’t clear just yet. His office didn’t respond to phone, text and email messages seeking comment on the possibility of Dallas changing its form of government.

“I don’t believe there’s going to be a whole lot of appetite for anybody to want to change the form of government, just based upon what I’ve read from other charter reviews the city has gone through and without us having a meeting yet,” Vaught said. “I guess anything can happen. Somebody might want to raise it, but I don’t know how far it’ll get.

Separately, at least one other former top elected official has made the argument recently that Dallas’ form of government should change.
