Tillie Geidel Conklin, the daughter of New York City firefighter Gary Geidel killed on 9/11, believes her dad still speaks to her by leaving pennies for her with haunting frequency.
firefighters killed while responding to the hellish inferno at the World Trade Center. Geidel was 44 years old; Tillie is his only child.
Conklin visited the 9/11 Memorial at the footprint of the World Trade Center for"the first and only time" on Sept. 11, 2021, as the nation marked the 20th anniversary of the horrific terror attacks that took her dad's life. Conklin often drove with her dad to Conference House Park, an American Revolution landmark on Staten Island, with a large fountain.
Conklin’s social media penny posts are easy to dismiss as coincidence: wishes for connection and closure from woman who grew up without a father after losing him to unspeakable tragedy and trauma. She donates the proceeds to AnswerTheCall.org, which supports the families of New York City first responders killed in the line of duty.
