Despite the MCU's massive success, DC's Elseworlds movies have a big advantage over Marvel and Sony's approach to their shared multiverse.
DC's Elseworlds projects take a much more practical approach to the multiverse than Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man movies. Marvel Studios has launched a cinematic universe with a consistent continuity that now ventures into the concept of the multiverse in order to continue expanding its reach and incorporate properties that existed before it began, such as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Fox's X-Men franchise. Warner Bros.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The MCU multiverse contains an infinite number of realities, including those of movies and shows not explicitly acknowledged by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As Phase 4 and 5 entries such as Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness suggest, it's possible for these realities to meet, allowing characters from different Marvel titles to cross over.
Meanwhile, Sony is able to build a franchise of Spider-Man-related characters with Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter, but even though these characters are confirmed to exist in a different reality from Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man, they are still connected to him through the MCU multiverse, as confirmed by Morbius and Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scenes.
