As DCeased's zombie apocalypse rages on, the series seems to be preparing to transform Batman's butler Alfred into the new Red Lantern. Red Lanterns are powered by rage - something Alfred has a lot of after being forced to kill an infected Bruce.

DC is seemingly setting up Batman's longtime butler Alfred Pennyworth as the next Red Lantern. A former MI5 agent and professional actor, Alfred Pennyworth took over from his father as the butler of the illustrious Wayne family, only to become the young Bruce Wayne's sole protector when his mother and father were gunned down in a senseless crime.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY However, in the world of DCeased, yet more tragedy was waiting. In DC's standalone zombie-apocalypse saga, a corrupted version of the Anti-Life Equation spread through technology, turning normal people and superhumans alike into violent thralls. Batman, Nightwing, and Robin all fell to the infection, and knowing they would want anything rather than to hurt innocent people, Alfred did his duty, gunning down his adopted sons.

DCeased Is Defining Alfred by His Rage In a recent tweet, writer Tom Taylor drew attention to a CBR article concerning the moment, adding, "Alfred has an important role to play in upcoming issues of #DCeased: War of the Undead Gods." It's a particularly interesting comment when combined with the issue's reflection on Alfred's rage, especially given the DCeased saga's penchant for passing on existing mantles to new characters.

DCeased Is Obsessed with Creating New Lanterns However, DCeased particularly likes handing out rings from the various Lantern Corps that make up the Emotional Spectrum, with Black Canary becoming a wildly powerful Green Lantern, and the recently returned Darkseid getting a Sinestro Corps ring. Completing the trifecta of the most offensively powerful Lantern Corps with a Red Lantern Alfred would make perfect sense, especially given how the narrative is stressing his growing anger.

Batman's Butler Is a Surprisingly Perfect Red Lantern Seeing the staid butler Alfred Pennyworth become DC's newest Red Lantern would be a true sight to behold, though it's not as far-fetched as it seems. Alfred is a former secret agent who has spent his life coordinating the world's finest vigilantes, and who has now lived through a zombie apocalypse.
