One of Gotham's most underestimated villains has finally topped Lex Luthor's grand cake larceny in terms of petty villainy — and it's hilarious.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Out of all of DC Comics' big-name villains, perhaps none are pettier than Lex Luthor: a villain who's equally likely to give you cancer as he is to steal forty cakes from a school bake sale . However, Luthor's meme-worthy crime may have finally been upstaged by none other than Gotham's Solomon Grundy. If stealing forty cakes is bad, then so is the felony operation of a pretzel wagon.
Tim Sheridan, Cian Tormey, Matt Herms, and Lucas Gattoni's Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #1 begins with Alan Scott being taken to task by none other than J. Edgar Hoover for not involving the recently-formed Justice Society of America in his recent dust-up: an entanglement with Solomon Grundy, operating far from his normal Gotham grounds.
If the report is to be believed, Grundy stands accused of "destruction of public property, reckless endangerment, impersonating a priest, and felony operation of a pretzel wagon without a license" before Scott was finally able to rein him in.DC's Grundy Has Dethroned A Meme Legend While comics are home to a host of silly crimes , none have become quite as legendary as Luthor's heist of forty cakes in 1978's The Super Dictionary.
While the sheer ridiculousness of a villain of Luthor's caliber resorting to hauling cakes from a bakery has catapulted this image into legend, Grundy's pretzel wagon shenanigans are arguably even more bizarre. Grundy's operation of a pretzel wagon sans license, however he did it, is mentioned as a felony charge, meaning that the crime was so severe it would warrant over a year's imprisonment — or even execution.
Grundy's crime may never reach the same heights of infamy as Luthor's; his reputation within the world of DC Comics is smaller, and the accompanying image is far less memetic. But in a comic book world where the ridiculous and the impossible walk hand-in-hand, Lex Luthor's cake heist ultimately must take a backseat to however Solomon Grundy managed to commit a felony by operating an unlicensed pretzel wagon. And that's terrible.
