Lady Deer cruise to easy regional semifinal softball victory
Lorelei Graham awaits a welcoming committee after she slugged the team's second roundtripper of the night, followed moments later by the team's third.With a 1-2 record for Game 1 assignments for a best-of-3 series so far in the Region III postseason softball tournament, Katy Seven Lakes thought it had found Deer Park’s weakness. Its reasoning was to skip all the formalities of two extra games and just play the one, Deer Park’s kryptonite.
“I don’t think we played real great up until this point, but it kind of came together tonight. I know I needed it and I think our kids needed it too,” Deer Park head coach Amy Vidal said. “I preached to them that they want to play us in one game because we’re getting beat in the first game. The only thing you can do is show up and prove to everybody that you’re going to be able to play. That was kind of the theme all week. Like I said, I think our kids responded well.
The game was over the moment Overla blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence, creating a 4-0 lead. On board was Lindsey McKnight. “I think it was a back door curveball. We knew this pitcher threw’em. I was looking for that pitch all day,” Graham said.
