After playing DeRozan straight up in the first half, the Spurs threw double- and triple-teams at their former teammate in the final two periods — but nothing worked. “DeMar had a great night. He was super,” Popovich said. “But we could have done a better job on him and we didn’t. No matter who we put on him, whatever scheme we were trying to use, we did not execute it as we would have liked. So, the combination of him being super and us not executing very well was a big contributor to losing the game. That was disappointing.”
About 40 seconds later, Dejounte Murray turned the ball over while trying to feed Jakob Poeltl down low. Chicago converted that miscue into a free throw for a 115-108 lead. Murray gained his 29th double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
