An Arctic blast of weather is on the way with wind chill temperatures plunging below zero on Sunday and Monday in widespread areas.

Overnight in Denver there’s a chance for snow and freezing rain before 8 p.m., then a chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 8 p.m. and midnight. Mostly cloudy skies will bring a chance of snow after midnight as the low temperature drops to about 5 degrees. The chance for precipitation is 40%, the weather service said. Snow accumulation should be minimal.

On Sunday, weather in the metro area will be bitter cold, with wind chill values dropping to -3 degrees, according to the NWS. Skies will be cloudy, there’s a 40% chance of snow and the high temperature will be steady at about 9 degrees. New snow accumulation will be less than an inch. Sunday night in Denver the low temperature will drop to -2 degrees, with wind chill values down to -11, the weather service said. There’s a 40% chance of snow, with less than an inch of accumulation, under cloudy skies.

In northeastern Colorado on Sunday and Monday, overnight, wind chill values will drop to near -20 in widespread areas, and the wind chill value is expected to remain below zero on Monday. On Monday in Denver there is a 20% chance for afternoon snow, skies will be mostly cloudy and the high will top out near 14 degrees, the weather service said. The Monday overnight temperature will be about 4 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
