Cool and breezy weather will carry metro Denver through Thursday, with possible clouds floating across mostly sunny blue skies in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

A red flag fire danger warning — due to dry air and soil with humidity as low as 10% and wind gusting at speeds up to 24 miles per hour — covers Colorado Springs, the southern Interstate 25 corridor, and the eastern plains. The dry air over the San Luis Valley and southern Front Range may lead to evaporation of light rain before it reaches the ground — what meteorologists call virga — with precipitation visible as gray streaks and possible sudden gusts of wind.
High Fire Danger expected over portions of southern Colorado today. Avoid all activities that may spark a fire, as fire growth will be rapid and hard to contain.
