A judge on Tuesday let Johnny Depp move forward with his libel suit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star rested his case.

This combination of two separate photos shows divorced actors Johnny Depp, left, and Amber Heard in the courtroom at the Fairfax County Circuit Court in Fairfax, Va., Tuesday May 3, 2022. Depp sued Heard for libel in Fairfax County Circuit Court after she wrote an op-ed piece in The Washington Post in 2018 referring to herself as a"public figure representing domestic abuse." after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star rested his case.

The trial will move forward Tuesday afternoon with Heard's team beginning to present its witnesses after more than three weeks of testimony from Depp's witnesses, includingDepp and his lead lawyer, Benjamin Chew, patted each other on the back after the judge ruled the case can proceed. “We haven’t gotten to put on our case yet,” he said. “This is all evidence that has come in while plaintiff controls the playing field.”2018 op-ed piece in The Washington Post
