Buffalo, N.Y. It has been nearly two years since tragedy struck at a grocery store in Buffalo when 10 African Americans were killed and three others were hurt.
Governor Kathy Hochul, Buffalo -area leaders and the 5/14 Commission have unveiled the chosen design for a monument in honor of the Buffalo mass shooting victims.
This Tuesday, May 14 marks two years since the horrific mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo.Now, one more step has been taken in the journey toward healing, with the unveiling of the design for a permanent monument honoring the victims. It will be built on land operated by the Buffalo City School District and will be accompanied by a new building, which will serve as a central hub for education, community activities, exhibitions and more."We have an obligation as a community and as a country to honor each of the victims of this evil act," said Rep. Tim Kennedy.
The memorial is expected to cost nearly $15 million. The commission has started fundraising efforts to collect the remaining amount needed to break ground.and the City of Buffalo has committed $1 million to the living, lasting monument in memory of each victim, serving as a standing symbol against hate.
