The Diamondbacks haven’t just won games against back-of-the-rotation pitchers during their recent streak. They have beaten up on legitimate, frontline type starters.

All six of those pitchers entered their starts against the Diamondbacks with ERAs of 3.31 or lower. It could be argued that all fit at or near the front of a rotation, including even the 36-year-old Cueto, who has turned back the clock to put together his best season in more than a half-decade.

Entering Monday’s series opener against the San Diego Padres, the Diamondbacks had won eight of their past 10 games and 17 of 27. They were 24-17 since the All-Star break. It is a fascinating about-face from the offense given the way the season started, when the Diamondbacks struggled to hit not just against good pitchers, but against any pitcher. They hit.156 through their first 11 games and needed 12 games and 35 at-bats before delivering their first hit of the year with two outs and a runner in scoring position.
