“This is Machiavellian, but Bob is the king,” said one Hollywood power player. “They're going to pine for Bob Iger. That poor dude is going to have the toughest time.” Iger had hoped to avoid the drama that has been part of the Disney succession narrative since the death of its namesake founder died in 1966. He witnessed, first hand, Eisner’s fall from grace.
In his remaining time with the company, Iger told investors that he felt his time would be best spent focusing on the company’s creative pipeline — a broad portfolio of intellectual property that spans Pixar and Disney animation, Marvel Entertainment’s roster of superheros and Lucasfilm’sfranchise. He couldn’t do that, Iger said, if he were running the company on a day-to-day basis.
