Rutgers remains a bit away from entering the Top 25, something it has not done in over a decade. The Scarlet Knights have not been ranked since the final week of the 2012 season, which they finished at No. 22 in the poll. That marks 176 consecutive weeks without making the poll, the longest active drought among Power Five programs; Vanderbilt, the next closest, was last ranked in the final poll of the 2013 season.
A victory over the Buckeyes would mark Rutgers’ first-ever win over the historic program, guarantee a spot in the AP Top 25 and mark the first win over a ranked opponent in 14 years. The Scarlet Knights own the longest losing streak against ranked opponents in Division I football, dropping their last 36 meetings with teams in the AP Top 25 poll. Their last ranked win was a 31-0 blowout of No. 21 South Florida in 2009, and their last top-10 win was 16 years ago against the same opponent.
