Vanadium dioxide is among the most promising candidates for neuromorphic computing. It exhibits an intriguing insulator-to-metal transition in which resistivity changes by more than 4 orders of magnitudes. This transition is controlled by the interplay of electron and lattice degrees of freedom.
MeV UED is a powerful tool to precisely probe transient atomic motions in response to stimuli, either electric or photonic, thanks to its access to a wide momentum space. New research includes mapping of the atomic motion during the transition under ultrafast electric pulses for brain-inspired applications.
