District 2 City Council candidates clash on housing, building and communications in forum [Opinion]

Five candidates in the crowded San Diego City Council District 2 race gathered at Point Loma/Hervey Branch Library on Monday, May 9, for a feisty conversation about big issues facing the district, from the climate emergency to city policing.

The hourlong forum touched on many issues pertaining to housing and development, such as the redevelopment of the sports arena property and policies regarding accessory dwelling units, or ADUs. The city rules governing short-term vacation rentals, which Campbell helped negotiate, were also a subject of conversation as was the criticism the incumbent has received from some constituents about her responsiveness to community concerns.
