After Marvel Comics introduced a version of Doctor Doom who has become a master of the Dark Arts, he officially dethrones Thanos as the Marvel villain with the highest kill count... and it's not even close.

The absolutely ruthless villainy of Doctor Doom just reached all-new heights in Marvel Comics as he officially claims Marvel’s highest kill-count, and it’s not even close. Doctor Doom’s most villainous trait is his lust for power, and as Marvel explores the deeper regions of the multiverse, it is revealed that the original Doctor Doom isn’t the only version who will do whatever it takes in the pursuit of absolute power.

In Avengers #53 by Jason Aaron and Juan Frigeri, the Avengers are being attacked by multiversal villains who are working to kill every single Avengers team across the multiverse. One of those villains is a Doctor Doom variant who focused more on mastering dark magic rather than technological advancements. While on the surface this Doctor Doom seems like an evil version of Doctor Strange, readers learn from where his magic is drawn and it is way darker than fans could have imagined.

In Doctor Doom #10 by Christopher Cantwell and Salvador Larroca, Doctor Doom travels to an alternate universe where his variant isn’t a villain, but a genius inventor who used his intellect for the betterment of the entire planet. Instead of being persuaded by this version of himself to change his ways and become the savior of his Earth as well, Doctor Doom is disgusted by his good variant and wants nothing more than to see this perfect world come to an end.

While visiting another reality, Doctor Doom destroys its entire universe which alone is probably enough to make his kill-count the highest Marvel has seen, putting Thanos’ previously held record of killing half a universe to absolute shame. Plus, with the introduction of the Doctor Doom variant who travels the multiverse and wipes out entire planets throughout all of them just to fuel his magic, the number of lifeforms dead because of Doctor Doom has grown exponentially.
