Dollar General is the latest retailer to announce plans to roll back self-checkouts.
The company is removing self-checkouts from 300 stores that have the highest levels of shoplifting, according toCNN reports Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos made the announcement during a call with analysts Thursday saying the move will help reduce shrink – a term used in the retail industry for lost inventory.
Vasos used artificial intelligence to analyze purchases made with self-checkout and was able to determine which stores had the most stolen items, CNN reported.Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Walmart toldShe also told TODAY that Walmart store managers are permitted to run their store in a manner that works best for their employees and customers.
Walmart is not alone in potential self-checkout limits. Target has also reportedly limited the use of self-checkout.
