Southbound lanes of a bridge on a key North Jersey state highway closed since Tuesday could be reopened in mid-July.
The southbound bridge, which crosses over the river in Jefferson Township, just before Berkshire Valley Road, “has been deemed unsafe for travel,” according to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department.after the loss of all southbound lanes on a 124-year old bridge that was being replaced, detouring tens of thousands of cars onto local Jefferson Township streets for the past four days.
DOT officials made the announcement Friday it plans to install the temporary two-lane bridge that will be delivered and built on an accelerated schedule that could be open to traffic in six weeks.
