The idea is for families with loved ones on the spectrum to use the stickers around their homes, vehicles or even places of work.
Captain Rachel David says the initiative goes hand-in-hand with the mandated training law enforcement has when dealing with those with sensory needs.DOTHAN, Ala. - The Dothan Police Department is introducing autism awareness stickers for National Autism Acceptance Month.
Captain Rachel David with DPD says it will go hand-in-hand with the mandated training law enforcement has when dealing with those with sensory needs. ”All of these things are designed to help officers who may not have dealt with sensory issues in the past, but we also want to reach out to those families and allow them to give us an indicator if they have a residence or a vehicle where someone with autism may be overstimulated by our arrival should they need services. That is just simply a sticker that identifies for Dothan PD officers that the need may be present,” David said. The stickers can be picked up from the police department for free.
