YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has signed an agreement to sell its downtown building.
The YMCA has said it is selling the downtown building because of needed costly repairs and to raise funds for other uses.
“While the decision to sell the building was not an easy one to make, it is one that allows the Y to invest in serving the community, rather than in costly repairs,” YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas president and CEO Curt Hazelbaker said in a statement.Hazelbaker said the YMCA will continue to offer programs like water safety classes in the “downtown area” but not in its building.
“It is one of the many programs we offer that do not require a building,” he said. “In fact, about two-thirds of the people the Y serves annually don’t come into our buildings.”Advertisement“If a sale is made, the funds can provide significant resources for Y efforts to serve more North Texas families as part of the organization’s growth strategy,” YMCA officials said in a statement. The sale “will make way for new development.
