Draymond has high expectations for Kuminga, even in exhibition games.
star’s podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” Green brought up the blunt criticism he had of how Jonathan Kuminga played against the New York Knicks in Summer League on July 8.
Kuminga, the No. 7 overall pick in last year’s draft, scored a paltry four points, shooting 2-of-10 from the field, and coughing up five turnovers in the 101-88 loss. “I’m going to say this publicly because I said it to his face,” Green said. “I thought Jonathan Kuminga was so, so, so bad in the game that I went to when they were playing the New York Knicks. I thought he was very, very bad. He didn’t look engaged.”
The Dubs forward continued to explain that his concern was that Kuminga wasn’t showing out for the “OG’s” that were in attendance, a direct juxtaposition to how Green approached his Summer League games early on in his career. He added that the young Warriors player lacked the “pop” that you would expect from someone with actual NBA experience in these games.
Kuminga was considered a raw prospect with high potential from the moment it was rumored the Warriors would draft him. Naturally, it would stand to reason that in order to make progress towards that potential, he has to show signs of improvement, which a 4-point performance in an exhibition game doesn’t really do.
