Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green will be sidelined with an injury
Golden State Warriors training camp will begin with an injury to a key player.
Draymond Green, 33, will begin training camp with a sprained left ankle, sources confirmed to this news organization. The team is expected to provide a timetable for his return the first day of camp on Monday. Initial reports indicate Green’s ankle sprain could have him sidelined three-to-six weeks. The Warriors’ open up the regular season in less than four weeks against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 24.
Green signed a four-year, $100 million extension with the Warriors when free agency opened in June. He played 73 games last season, averaging 31.5 minutes per game. On that timeline, the injury could sideline Green for a majority of the Warriors’ preseason games in late-October and open the door for Jonathan Kuminga to earn minutes in his place with the starters — which could include a combination of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney.
