Another driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
A man driving a Jeep Cherokee the wrong way up a Northwest Side hill died following a head-on collision on Thursday.
The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. near the crown of the hill in the 2400 block of Hillcrest Drive, San Antonio police said. The Cherokee was heading the wrong way in the southbound lane as an unidentified vehicle was coming downhill, followed by a Toyota Corolla. Investigators said the vehicle in front of the Corolla swerved suddenly into the middle turning lane.Then, the driver of the Corolla was unable to evade in time and collided head on with the Jeep.
Both cars were redirected. The Corolla spun counterclockwise and came to rest on the curb. Meanwhile, the Jeep flipped over and slid on its roof, stopping in the northbound lane.Firefighters had to cut through the metal to reach him, and he died at the scene, a report states. The man was not immediately identified.
