Driver killed in crash at southbound 1-15 near I-805 [Breaking]
A 43-year-old driver died after his pickup crashed on south Interstate 15 near Interstate 805 in the City Heights area Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
All southbound I-15 lanes were closed and traffic was diverted to south I-805 after the 3:30 crash, California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Matias said. Vehicles were backed up for miles, and authorities issued a traffic alert for the area. Matias said the freeway was expected to be closed until at least 6 p.m.The driver, a San Ysidro man, was headed south when his pickup veered left into the metal guardrail in the center divide, Matias said.CHP officers and paramedics responded and attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the scene, Matias said.
