PARIS—France’s biggest oil company is discounting gas it sells at its service stations across the country, a novel move by one of the world’s largest energy firms amid pressure from governments to lower prices at the pump.

Oil major TotalEnergies SE, which competes globally with the likes of Exxon Mobil Corp. and Shell PLC, said Friday it is deepening summer gas-pump discounts already in place at its highway service stations through the end of the year and broadening the discounts to all of its filling stations in France.
