Adam Henrique has two goals, John Gibson makes 49 saves in his return from injury and Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry convert during the shootout for a 3-2 victory.

December 28, 2022 at 10:05 p.m.ANAHEIM — It must have seemed like old times for Ducks goalie John Gibson.

He routinely faced 40-plus shots per night before his injury and the pattern quickly resumed on Wednesday night against Vegas at Honda Center. The Golden Knights racked up 37 shots through two periods and zoomed past the 40-shot mark a little more than one minute into the third period. This time, however, it did not cost the Ducks, who beat the first-place team in the Pacific Division in a shootout, 3-2. Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry scored in the shootout, and Gibson stopped Mark Stone and Reilly Smith shot wide. The Ducks are in the midst of a franchise-record 10-game homestand and it was their first game after the short holiday break. Vegas, depleted by injuries, had lost to the Kings the previous night and started backup goaltender Adin Hill.

Hill’s appearance, however, was a brief one as he was pulled for Logan Thompson at 12:26 of the first period after giving up two goals on five shots. Both goals were scored by Ducks forward Adam Henrique. On his first goal, and 10th of the season, Henrique converted his own rebound and capitalized at 3:27 when Vegas defenseman Daniil Miromanov was slow to clear.
