Last month was officially the hottest January on record for the planet according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

that January 2020 was on average hotter than any other January since 1880 when reliable record-keeping began.

While you may not have locally felt that it was a particularly warm January, it’s important to keep in mind that the temperature is an average across the globe. In particular, high latitudes experience more warming than low latitude countries .
