A quick but firm rattle was felt throughout the Bay Area on Friday evening as an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 shook the region. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake hit at 6:38 p.m. The quake was centered near Millbrae at a depth initially listed as about 9 kilometers, then revised to 13.1 km. No damage was immediately reported, although residents throughout the Bay Area reported feeling the shaking.
Luckily, the magnitude 4.1 earthquake centered near Isleton in Sacramento County turned out to be a mild shaker. On Monday, the area was rattled again by a 2.9 magnitude quake off Twitchell Island in the Delta, 3 miles south of Isleton. Although it might seem like “earthquake weather” is in the air, seismologists and meteorologists agree that there’s no correlation between weather and earthquakes. — Calif.
