The shoes will be available for purchase through a special capsule sale on the RealReal tomorrow but, more importantly, as Latta explains of the partnership, they wanted to “start a conversation about reducing waste and extending the lifecycle of fashion.
Eckaus and Latta say that they essentially “combed through the RealReal’s vast assortment and selected a certain attitude that we were looking for.” Eckhaus notes, “We spend a lot of time on the RealReal personally speaking, and in secondhand stores. Secondhand clothing and the practice of searching and looking at clothes—not just those that are in season—is part of how and why we became friends and collaborators.
Sasha Skoda, the head of women’s at the RealReal and the person who worked on this partnership with Eckhaus Latta, is excited to pursue more opportunities like this one in the near future and to help extend the longevity of products used during fashion shows. “We are always eager to explore any opportunity that creates conversation around how resale can help reduce fashion’s footprint,” Skoda says.
Skoda goes on to say that from an industry perspective, it’s also important for other brands to see that “you can use secondhand pieces in a runway show and have them be a cohesive part of the collection.” She adds, “This happened organically, as Mike and Zoe approached us as fans of the site. This is also a great example of the shift we’re seeing with brands embracing resale and finding creative ways to incorporate it into what they do.
