It was a proclamation of unity, per Miller, a clear statement to foreign powers as conflict brewed abroad and, not mentioned by the author, as racial violence beset the country at home. Trump, though embattled, is still running for president. Election deniers still hold office. And local elections face renewed challenges and threats.
