Known as Lagordiloca, Priscilla Villarreal was arrested for publishing information she...
to obtain access to confidential complaints about a county hospital for the purpose of retaliating against two nurses who filed the complaints.for city projects, giving the appearance of rewarding the lowest bid to a contractor, while pocketing some of the funds for himself.with a Laredo police officer about a Border Patrol agent who died by suicide and published it on her Facebook page.
Villarreal’s newsgathering tactics are certainly unorthodox. She calls herself “Lagordiloca” – the fat crazy lady – and thrives as a nocturnal newshound, reporting and posting in the wee hours of the morning. She’s amassed 200,000 followers on Facebook by livestreaming from the scene of police raids, car crashes and shootings, sharing raw and sometimes gruesome images that mainstream news outlets would be hesitant to publish.
The Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals initially overturned that ruling and revived Villarreal’s lawsuit in a 2-1 decision. Judge James Ho, who was appointed by Republican President Donald Trump, wrote for the majority opinion: “It should be obvious to any reasonable police officer that locking up a journalist for asking a question violates the First Amendment.”
