Five-year-old gelding wins Grade I Bing Crosby; Senor Buscador takes Grade II San Diego with furious kick
The Chosen Vron won a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint and Senor Buscador ran away from 4-5 favorite Defunded Saturday in the two featured stakes races at Del Mar.
“I told Franco to just let the horse do his thing and don’t panic and start riding early,” Fincher continued after his first-ever stakes win at Del Mar. “Senor Buscador has a strong kick. Wait as long as you can to push the button. He’ll never do anything but fall back out of the gate … so we needed a good setup.”
Defunded hung in the middle of the pack the entire distance. Brickyard Rule led up to the middle of the stretch. Senor Buscadoir paid $29 to win. While the 5-year-old, Cal-bred son of Vronsky has won eight straight races, this was his first open stakes race since he ran fifth in last August’s Grade II Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar. Berrios has been aboard The Chosen Vron for nine straight races. The Chosen Vron paid $11 to win.Phil D’Amato, who won both the summer and fall meeting training titles in 2022, will saddle four of the nine horses entered in Sunday’s Grade II Eddie Read, a 1 1/8-mile turf test for 3-year-olds.
