Swedish freight tech company has opened shop in the U.S. bringing with it its autonomous electric transports called Pods and is creating the world's first position for remote Pod operators.
A new version of the Pod will be built to meet U.S. safety and other governmental standards and a flatbed version will be added to the lineup next year to handle cargo containers, Falck said.In addition, as part of its U.S. expansion, Einride is introducing Saga, “the intelligent operating system for movement of freight.” Via Saga shippers will be able to manage cost-competitive electrification, routing and assignments.
The ability to operate several trucks from one location offers a better lifestyle and improved pay while providing a job opportunity using existing skills and injecting the necessary human element into the process. Remote Pod Operators will work directly for Einride and right now, the position does not require any special licensing. Initially, Pods will operate in limited geofenced areas but the goal is to have them travel on public roads.
Wednesday's announcements came less than a week after Einride said it will initially bring six electric and one autonomous Pod to the U.S. operating at GE Appliances locations in Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky.
