The Tucson Roadrunners are set to don the latest version of their unique 'El Lazo' sweaters when they host San Diego on Friday in the first of a two-game series at Tucson Arena.
James Kelley Special to the Arizona Daily Star Professional sports teams are glued to their brands. Not just team names or mascots, but colors, fonts, logos and accents.
Bob Hoffman, president of the Tucson Roadrunners, said Southern Arizona’s AHL franchise wanted to take things further when they created “El Lazo de Tucson” — an identity they don with unique jerseys and logos a few nights a year that, Hoffman said, tells “a story” and connects to Southern Arizona on a cultural level.
Roadrunners coach Steve Potvin said the team’s El Lazo jerseys are his favorite, although he also liked the new"First Responders Night" jersey announced earlier this week. “There are a lot of people that talk about it,” Hoffman said about El Lazo. “They say they came to a game specifically because of that or that they came to a game not knowing and saw that and thought, ‘Wow, that’s a really cool idea that you guys are doing.’ ”
