For the second year in a row, a judge has ruled that GOP Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters and Deputy Clerk Belinda Knisley are barred from overseeing an election — this time, the June primaries and November general election.
. Knisley was also indicted by the grand jury, and was suspended from her role at the county on Aug. 23, 2021, for a workplace investigation. The embattled clerk, however, received the most votes among GOP secretary of state candidates at the Republican assembly and convention. “Based on the circumstances of this case … the Court determines that the Petitioners have met the burden of showing that Peters and Knisley have committed a neglect of duty and are unable to perform the duties of the Mesa County Designated Election Official,” wrote Judge Valerie Robison in her order filed Tuesday.
