ERCOT promises Texans the power grid will not crash this summer: 'The lights are going to stay on'
American-Statesman file photo, or ERCOT, has urged power generators that planned to shut down for maintenance to keep making electricity.
“We were tested last weekend, and our reforms worked,” he said. “ERCOT’s new control of generator outages meant we had more power online going into the weekend than we would have otherwise, and the extra reserves we have been procuring meant we had an additional margin of safety when generators began tripping offline.”
“It’s this chicken-and-egg problem,” she said. “You can bring a generator online, but if it hasn’t been able to do maintenance, it’s not going to stay online for long.”
