The rest of the mural depicts stories of ethnic diversity. There are 86 ethnic groups within Ethiopia. Some may have remembered driving down Martin Luther King Drive and seeing the panels get assembled. Close up, the panels are all tiles, assembled by“Ernie came out of nowhere,” says Demessie. “He showed up for us. It was all computerized, showing where each tile belonged. He, his little girls, and his wife assembled the mosaic because the tiles are so small.”
