Before Sam Levinson’s The Idol faced criticism for its graphic content and questionable behind-the-scenes behavior, Euphoria met the same concerns.
Sam Levinson's The Idol has come face to face with controversy as reports of overly graphic and concerning content come out and, because of similar issues on his other series, Euphoria, this controversy may not be so surprising. Levinson's teen drama Euphoria has garnered popularity for its intense nature and aesthetic choices, but over the course of its two-season run, it has also suffered from negative claims and rumors.
It may seem like considering the show's concept of a toxic relationship, Levinson's surplus of explicit scenes makes sense. HBO described the original show as "the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood." However, one production member called Levinson's version a "rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better.
Sweeney wasn't the only Euphoria cast member to speak out about explicit content. Chloe Cherry who played Faye in Euphoria season 2 described how in her first-ever scene, she was supposed to be completely naked. Her discomfort with the detail led to a co-star speaking up for her, and once again, the nudity was cut.
