Higher gas prices have sparked interest in electric vehicles but a CarGurus consumer survey finds it will take more than that to get drivers to switch from cars powered by gas to those that run on batteries.

Reluctance to making the switch is also based on value and convenience for a good many of the consumers responding to the CarGurus survey. Any reluctance aside, overall interest in electric vehicles is growing with the introduction of highly publicized vehicles in more body types such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5.... Of course, there's a catch. Consumers who want to go electric are caught up in the same fix as everyone shopping for wheels—there's simply not much to choose from as the global semiconductor shortage and other supply chain issues have slowed vehicle production.
