In 2022, BAFTA leveled the playing field for the films competing for its highest honors through a process of long-listing followed by two rounds of voting—a move that encouraged members to consider a wider range of releases, and rewarded smaller indie gems that could otherwise have been overlooked . However, it was also crucial in anointing frontrunners ahead of the Oscars, from Jane Campion and Ariana DeBose to Troy Kotsur.
The organization added that “the production will be bolstered by two hosts, leading the ceremony from the auditorium and a new BAFTA Backstage Studio [that] will offer viewers a 360-degree viewing experience [with] interviews from past and present winners, nominees and presenters.”On January 16, the organization revealed that Oscar and BAFTA nominee Richard E. Grant would host the ceremony, while presenter Alison Hammond would take the lead in the BAFTA Backstage Studio.
